View Full Version : Trouble selecting split region

I created a couple of split faces on a ceiling and now need to change it but no matter what I do, can't seem to select the split faces. I can only select the ceiling as a whole or the material I have painted onto the split faces. I've tried in both RCP and 3D views but no luck. Is there anyway I can edit these without recreating the entire ceiling?

Did you try using TAB to select ?

Can you post the file so we can have a look at it ?

It happens to me often....sometimes it selects the opposite face
when using the split face, one needs to select a face of an object, sometimes the computer selects the wrong side of the face, sometimes it is avoidable, sometimes it isn't... so if you make the view wireframe (I suggest isolating the ceiling and the split) you will/should be able to select the split sketch. Sometimes I even need to rotate the object in 3D to select the split face from the opposite side, still in wireframe....

Everytime this happens to me, chosing it in wireframe works for me...hopefully it works for you

Take care,

(warning...you don't have to read this part in color, it's of a technical nature...The computer recognizes both sides of the same face differently. i.e. if we look at a face of a ceiling (the side where the fill pattern gets applied), it is of a solid nature, but if we place a camera inside that thickness of the same material, looking at the back side of the ceiling, we will see through it as if it is transparent, or not present), if one used to create 3d with faces in autocad, depending on the direction of chosing your 3 to 4 points of a face, you could have drawn it solid from one side and transparent on the other....and if one made a mistake, we would have to flip the face, when rendering we would have to tell 3DStudio to render "double sided" increasing the rendering time since it would have to render both sides of the same face....)

Thank you Luigi! Wireframe did the trick. Very helpful tip. :)

I am quite well versed in 3ds max so understand the concept of normals but had never thought of how it applied to Revit. All makes sense though.

I realise you've already solved the problem but it quite often happens here and isolating the element and using a view perpendicular to the face helps.

Cheers, Brett
