Using Inventor 11
I have 5 columns in my new parts list.
Column #4 is: Qty
Column #5 is: Mass
The weights are shown for 1 item only, the quantities in the "Qty"column are for more than 1 item.
How can I modify the mass column to show the correct weights for the quantities shown.
And how can I show an overall weight for all the components in the Parts List?
Need help desperately.
Thanks in advance.

Serge JTry this:
1) Edit your parts list
2) Right click on the 'Mass' Column and choose 'Format Column'
3) Go to the substitution tab and modify the values to show Mass as the 'Sum of Values'.
You can also play with the column format screen to change whether or not you see units and how you want it formatted.
I hope this is enough to get you started!

Thanks Jonathan, that's exellent.

Also for my second part of the question, is there a way to total all the weights for that "Mass Column " other than creating "Table with Exel exported Column Data?

Also for my second part of the question, is there a way to total all the weights for that "Mass Column " other than creating "Table with Exel exported Column Data?I don't know of a way to get it all to sum up in one neat pile in the same part list, at least from the part list.
But a possiblity at least would be to create a sketch symbol and bring in the Mass property as a field.
This could bring in the total mass for the assembly and possibly still get the result you need.

Hello again Jonathan,
I was able to export the parts list to an Exel Spread sheet & then link it to table created in Inventor & shown seperately just above the parts list. That works well.
Mass is a very important for an assembly. When you create a large Steel assembly, the trucking company wants to know & the crane operator wants to know as well.
I hope that Inventor 2008 would be able to take care of that. I will have 2008 loaded next week on my machine.

The method I used with the sketch symbol is in 2008. I was able to bring in the mass for an assembly in a drawing.
It worked pretty well, at least for the purposes I'd use it for.
Of course you'd be the final judge.
Happy Inventing! :)

Thanks for your reply Jonathan,
My new Inventor 2008 has not arrived yet. In the meanwhile, would the method described in your reply work in Inventor 11 & if so, could you show how to procede?
Thanks

I'm afraid the good/bad news is that this is a new feature for 2008 (but R11 can't do it).
There is an application you can download here that's supposed to do it. I've heard some good things about it, but I've never used it myself.
Download here. (http://hjem.get2net.dk/opad/)
