I want to draw a 3d line to join two points with different XYZ values and then
use this line to construct a sweep in place family.
However, Revit doesn't allow me to snap the points (actually they are small circle
constucted in acad and then import to Revit)
How can I do that ? Any ideas ?

Maybe you can draw a reference plane in a elevation from Z to the other Z-coordinate. Give the referenceplane a name and use it as a workplane. After this you can draw the sweep in this plane.

This is a ridiculous limitation in Revit. I try not to complain to much about the software but this is an absolute necessity! How can we have 3d modeling software that can't create a simple 3d line arbitrarily? I know you can resort to ref planes, sections, but come on that is way to time consuming and results in lots of unused content (views planes etc)
This makes creating complex space frames almost impossible!
We have resulted in using the Robobat excel model generator.
Simply export your 3d Revit model to autocad draw your lines where you want them. (because autocad has the capability to create a simple arbitrary line...) Then we use a custom program to convert the autocad lines into an excel spreadsheet which in turn creates the elements in Revit.
It saves an enormous amount of time. Importing 1800+ members from a line model takes about 35min.
How long would it take to place 1800 members on 1800 different planes manually in Revit?? I don't want to know.....
I never received a reply from my early post about the same subject...

Use a solid or void or combination to create an edge for the sweep path. Then use the Pick Path option to select the edge.
