Hello Everyone !
I’m new on this forum so please excuse me if I’m posting a problem that already has been solved a 100 times before…
I’ve been trying to learn Revit for about 2 weeks now and I must say it’s really great… but I have had a problem making a very simple geometry and I just can’t find a way.
Here is the problem :
I want to create a roof composed of triangle faces. Those triangle all have different slopes but they share edges… I don’t know if that’s very clear but just take a look at the image and you will understand what I am trying to do.
Making this with sloped floors seems impossible to me (but maybe someone will know). Because it is impossible to get the different floors to share sloped edges.
I also tried making a sloped beam system. Which was perfect but then I couldn’t find a way to put a roof or a floor on top of it.
Then I tried roof but I really ended up with odd results.
I made an example in Max to show you… it’s really a shame not to be able to place max geometry as mass in Revit… then solving this kind of problem would take a few seconds…
Thanks for your help.

easiest way, since you have already made solid geometry, is to import that DWG created in MAX into a Revit Mass or Generic Model family. Place that new family in your project, then go to the Massing tab on the Design Bar, and choose Roof by Face, and pick those faces.

Another way is to use the new roof tools in Revit 2008, and draw lines at the 'folds' and then manipulate the points to the correct heights.

I have a similar challenge... and, in addition to a roof I have walls and soffits that are doing similar things. I can get really close to creating the shell in Revit using Wall by Face though it isn't "perfect".

In addition to creating the shell I also need to add structure underneath it. I can use the imported geometry to apply structure at the ridges and valleys through a series of reference planes but the structure would then need to move underneath the shell skin and I'm having problems with this.

Maybe I'm going about it the hard way... any thoughts?

I can upload the RVT if interested.
