Spending the last few weeks reading through the forums...I've noticed one very consistent misspelling that drives me absolutely nuts.

LOSE - To be unsuccessful in retaining possession of; mislay
LOOSE - Not fastened, restrained, or contained OR Not taut, fixed, or rigid.

People...you may be correctly SPELLING the words...but you need to make sure you are SELECTING the appropriate correctly-spelled word.

/nitpicky rant

I would just like to add, about last night, Gil Grissom would NEVER use the phrase VIN number, somone needs to be fired for that...

I'm guilty of:

hovering>hoovering

I have no idea what hoovering means, but I seem to always want the extra O in there. Maybe as someone pointed out, its the act of using a Hoover vacuum.

Here are some of the spell check alternatives:

ho overing
ho-overing
havering
overing
hoveling

what's a 'ho overing'?? When she charges you too mucn for services performed????

Hmm, that isn't a custom augi forum word, the dictionary must have come with it? What type of dictionary is this, anyway? :-?

I always leave off the r in your...

Missing a letter when typing fast is acceptable (as if my opinion matters)...
Just as long as you know the difference between "your" and "you're"...and between "its" and "it's".

c'mon, they don't teach that in school (in hs my big sis and I had the same english teacher back to back years, we BOTH got in arguments with her because she didn't know the difference, also applies to her use of affect and effect, and ensure and insure). funny, right after that, she went back to college. hmm.

That one bugs me!

I had a friend in college who couldn't say "louvers". It always came out 'looves' (one syllable)

Maybe it's time to bring this thread to an end...though I do enjoy b****ing about other peoples' grammatical and spelling errors.

Then again...I will never get over people saying new-kyoo-lar...so feel free to keep up the gripes.
