Sub-inch expansion joint

My project requires a 20 mm expansion gap between in-balance aligned beams.
The beams will attach automatically at 50 or 60 mm.

Is there a way to adjust this minimum snapping gap? The attached file illustrates the issue and the shaming workaround I am using.

Thats a very good quesiton... i started fooling around with your drawing.. and i couldn't get them to NOT join. Submit a support request is what i'd do.
