Is there a trick to coping and pasting text from one detail view to another? We receive this error message from time to time when we copy and paste text from one detail view to another (see attach). The visibility setting is fine and we even created a view template of a view that worked and applied it to the view that is not working but we still get this error when we copy paste text. FYI - we are not using the paste align command, just the paste from clipboard command.

I have noticed that i get that error only when trying to copy or paste from dependant views to new views. kind of annoying, but just try the copy/paste from your parent view instead.

If its section callouts you're talking about, when the annotation crop region is turned on and part of your detail goes outside it, the detail items won't show at all.

okay, well, i am trying to copy from a floor plan callout to another floor plan callout view. they are on the same level, just different area. These are not dependent views because they are not listed as such. however, the call out views are being called out in a view that is an dependent view. does that make a difference? does it make a difference if the callout is a detail callout on plan or a floor plan callout?

**update** it doesn't matter if the callout is a detail callout or plan callout. error occurs on both. also it doesn't matter if the callout is on a independent view or a dependent view. error occurs on both instance.

**second update**so i tested out the copy and paste from callout to callout on a previous version of revit (9.1) and it worked. buggy issue with 2008? or did they just decided to not give us that option to do this. waiting on support to get back to us.

I dont think this is your problem... but i thought I would just through it out there... the view templates dont apply to worksets, so make sure that all of your needed worksets are on in the view that you are pasting into.

thanks for the suggestion, but we are copying and pasting view specific items, (i.e. text) so worksets do not apply here.

As it says in the error message the text was probably falling outside the annotation crop region of the callout view you were trying to paste into. To get rid of this error, you can either resize the annotation crop boundaries so it covers the portion of the area where your text was first created in the callout view or disable the annotation crop region by unchecking the checkbox for "Annotation Crop" in the Extents tab of the view properties. Though I can understand that Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V is so much easier to use, the recommended procedure I believe, would be to use Ctrl+C and the Paste Aligned command instead of going through the above procedure.

Hope this helps,

okay, we will try disabling the annotation crop to see if this will help. but why doesn't it happen consistantly? I mean, sometimes it gives us this error and sometimes it doesn't on the exact same view. i mean the team member working on this particular view couldn't do it in the morning, but then tried again in the afternoon and it worked. i am 99% sure that nothing different happen inbetween those times to change the view settings, it just started to work. then, by the late afternoon it doesn't. or it happens in some views and not others that were created the exact same way. just weird.

Sounds like more than text is being copied. Are you selecting individual text, or using window/or crossing? I've made the mistake before of using crossing, and even if VISUALLY the underlying reference detail is turned off, Revit will still see those elements and try to place them in the new view.

we tried the window, but when the error appeared, we only selected one text. both times the error appeared. typically, when we do a window crossing we use the filter tool to make sure we only copy text.
