View Full Version : have you noticed that you need to join geometry to get accurate quantities?

doing a material take off, i noticed that some elements like walls ince join give the correct material quatities. but if you have a floor that overlaps the wall with the same material (like concrete), unless you join them together, it double counts the material.

I guess this makes sense, as the 2 elements will exist in the same space, i just brings up the point that you could start getting the wrong quantities if you are not very diligant. I am not complaining, just mentioning something that i noticed that other might not be aware off.

That's a good point Justin and it brings up the issue that I always have when we get into the role of 'quantity surveyor'. The information we get out of Revit is only as accurate as what we put in. It can't be counted if it isn't modeled so either the client has to pay us a lot more money to allow us the time to model all elements or we have to be sure we provide the numbers with a very tightly worded disclaimer covering errors and omissions.

I still believe it comes down to shared liability and responsibility between architect (designer), client and contractor/trade.
