I have a 4 storey house alteration project where we have knocked out some walls and joined together some rooms, but the whole place is going to be stripped of finishes and refinished internally.

Can anyone say please, is it better to make rooms from scratch in the New Construction phase (with 'Show Complete' as the Phase Filter) so as to handle finishes or is it better practice to create all the rooms in the Existing phase?.. or does it matter either way?

I've read some old threads here on phasing and demolition and rooms but not covering my particular situation (as far as I can see) - it seems to be an area sometimes needing workarounds.

Depends on what you intend to do with the infromation generated by those rooms.
Rooms seem to obey to the phase filter in which they are created.
Don't know how you can re-phase existing rooms. This will likely be a very interesting question for one of your youngest employees.

What kind of finishes are we talking about? How do you create them in Revit?

I'm the youngest (and only) employee here, so I guess it falls to me, thanks ;)

I was looking at DGcad's updated 2008 cadclips on rooms and I noticed the finishes parameters listed in Properties and since some clients will be here any minute to interactively go around the Revit model and discuss finishes I thought it might be possible to make use of them (clients just love working through design changes in real time using Revit).

However, at first glance it would seem that it isn't really going to be detailed enough, and rooms extend through any opening that isn't a doorway, although I imagine you can split them.

Needs a bit more study I think.
