Working on a building with 30 degree angle "wings" . Metal Studs brick veneer. The masonry hatch had to altered on the 30 and 60 degree walls to keep the hatch pattern in plan oriented properly. So I have multiple similar wall types based on plan orientation. Looks okay in plan, but now guess what, the wall sections are screwed because the brick orientation hatch pattern also shows in the wall section. (What should be a 45 degree hatch could be 15 degrees because of the plan). Any suggestions besides overlaying a fill with proper hatching, or a fully detailed component wall system (which the windows will not hide)

Revit really needs some work on hatch pattern control, unless I'm totally missing the point (which I have on numerous occasions)....

Any help would be appreciated....

The only workaround I know of is to turn off the default masonry wall fill. Then create a drafting fill using a model crosshatch or parallel line pattern that can be rotated or aligned.

This will drive the drafting standards folks nuts, but the other choice would be to use a fill that's independent of orientation i.e. concrete or dense sand.

You could also use solid colour infill for walls instead of hatch

eg I use this to differentiate between New & Existing

If you have repeating examples of this at a fixed number of angles then you could tweak your hatch patterns accordingly for 15, 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 degrees and then use each different hatch pattern in a different wall definiton. Time consuming to set up, but quick in operation if this is likely to be a multi-project issue for you.

Pete:

The changing hatch pattern is what I have done for each different wall angle (which effectively holds the plan view of hatch as it should be.). However, the problem is that the wall section reflects the same angle as the plan, yet I need the masonry hatch to be 45 degrees on all wall sections not 15, 30, 45, and 60 degrees per the plan view.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have known many architects to rotate their hatch patterns within the wall cavities to maintain the angle of the hatching.

To have the hatch angle rotate with a wall would be a great thing.

Good point.

Now that I think about it, how about the repeating detail command.

Make a detail component consisting of an X. You can probably make it parametric to handle different wall thickness. Load it, go to the wall, pick the centerline for the path, & it should stay normal to the path picked.

Andrew -

Are you thinking in plan or section. If in section and a repeating detail, I think I would just use a brick with mortar joint. Also, there are issues if there is an opening in the wall, (unless I'm doing my repeating details improperly) - How 'bout an example. Always willing to learn :-)
