What type of family do i need to create for a motor connection? (equipment, device....)

The motor family itself will have an electrical connector on it (mechanical equipment). You also may want to put a separate starter family which could have a variety of family categories and part type depending on what you are trying to do.

Can you show me an example of what your drawing look like then? (ex. PDF of your sheet). If the family is created in the mechanical item how do you move the motor symbol so that is it not over the devices like receptacle....?

Well the motor symbol (for us anyway) is actually a separate generic annotation family which we place afterwards for presentation purposes. The logical electrical connection however is done straight from Mechanical equipment.
