The stair has a curve to it and gets wider at the lowest level. The handrails are to continue in the direction (diagonal direction) of the stair and level out at the lowest level. The handrails are intended to travel parallel to the floor for a few feet then "pigtail" around a column nearby.

The two rails look perfect, down the stair on the diagonal and level to the termination at the pigtail.

The problem is where they meet. I need the handrail of the stair to continue on a diagonal until in meets the handrail parrallel to the floor. As it is drawn now the handrail parallel to the floor is lower than the handrail at the end of the stair. I "cheated" the stair handrail down a bit further by adding another step at the bottom of the stair that goes below my floor. So now they do intersect. It there anway to make that convergence of the rails a bit less abrupt. Wish i had a pdf driver to post a pic.

Questions are:

Can I change the level of the floor hand rail slightly (have it higher where it meets my stair and lower as it "pigtails")?

Was the "cheat" a good one for extending my handrail down a bit further on the diagonal?

You don't need two seperate rails. In your railing sketch for the slope, keep one line on the edge of the stairs. Then draw another line extending out from the end of this, beyond the end of the stairs. Make sure that it's set to Flat (not sloped or by host) - this will make the join perfectly. In the railing type properties, there is a 'flat offset hieght' parameter (something like that) which you can use to offset the height of flat segments.
