Hi

I am having difficulties with the View Range feature. For Eg: i have a window on level 1 and a sunshade just above, on level 2.
i want to see the sunshade above in beyond / hidden line style when i view level 1. i tried playing around with the view range in the view properties dialog of level 1, but cant get the sunshade to show up on it.

what could i be doing wrong? i'm sure i understand all the terminology of the view range, but i cant apply it.. please help! i'm attaching the file for help!!

thanks in advance

I'm no expert but would a plan region solve this?

You would have to change the view range for the whole floor plan... not a good diea.
You could use a plan region but if you have 40 of those ...will take you a while.
Your example shows a roof on level 2, taht doesnt look like a sunshade device to me but more like a test file.
I suggest that you build that sunshade in the window family and then you can control the display using simple lines

Try playing around with the Fine, Medium and Coarse view setting as well. Sometimes elements are assign properties no to show in any one of the view settings.

Try setting the second floor as an underlay. It will show the shade as needed. I don't if this will be exactly what you need but it should give you a starting point.

If you have 40 of these shades, you should create a shade Rfa as Daniel mentions.

If its one of a kind shade , you can use the Line work Tool: set Cut Plane of Level 1 above shade > use Line work Tool > reset Cut Plane to normal. The lines will adjust automatically as you modify the shade.

Hi

Sorry for the late reply!!
thanks , but does it mean that view range doesnt work? i tried different settings the view range, but no effect on the view, other than changes from the offset of the cut plane!

does this mean that we cant use view range in plan regions too? i tried, but am not getting any satisfactory results!!

Thanks Again!!
