I would like to show shadow in plan view as a hatch and outlined.Is there any way to define the outline of a shadow or set to properties of the shadow to a hatch fill.

No. To do what you want, you would have to do it manually.
You can only control the shadow as it allows you in the "Advanced..." part

Thanks for the link Niki. The demo looks exactly what I am looking for. This maybe somthing Autodesk could look at building into Revit
