Hello Fellow Revit user! Join fellow users of advanced design technology in the formation of an informal users group focused on Revit. Now that many northern California offices have begun to use this tool for production, our hope is to develop a local community of interest to share best practices, problems, tips, information, and to provide a mechanism for feedback to AutoDesk on how to make the system more responsive to our needs.

In our first meeting, we will be talking about Family creation. This will encompass the creation & management of Families, how to use Families to migrate your legacy CAD 'blocks' into Revit, How to tie additional information into your families with shared parameters, some pros and cons of Families, and creating complex automated parametric families; such as trusses, self-drawing bike racks, and more. I am hoping to have this be more round-table discussion and information sharing than a Lecture or a Demo, so while I (and others) will be showing what we know about Family creation, please bring along your examples, questions, problems, and we'll talk about them too.

Location: Huntsman Architecture Group, 50 California, Seventh Floor San Francisco, CA 94111 www.huntsmanag.com

Date: Thursday, July 24th, 2003

Time: 6:30 pm start, and expected to go for at least an hour or two.

We'll have some snacks and sodas. If you can, please e-mail me to say that you are coming, so that I can get a head count & tell building security. Hope to see you there!

Revit-curious are welcome to attend, please keep in mind that this group is for primarily Revit users and their issues, and as such not too much time will be devoted to demonstrating Revit or explaining Revit's basic functions.

Thanks!

Hey Jeffrey,

any chance you'll be demonstrating your wacom tablet?

Uhmm... yeah, the meeting will be here in the office, so yeah, everyone can try the tablet out. But it will be fairly boring I must warn you, for I don't have the flatscreen tablet, just the plain-old-replace-the-mouse kinda tablet.

Here, this is what I own: http://www.wacom.com/productinfo/intuos.cfm

Not this (but how I wish): http://www.wacom.com/lcdtablets/index.cfm

But sure! If you want a good test run on Revit or Photoshop with the tablet then I'm game. :)

That's what I want to try. I don't have the $$ for the other monster anyway. I just want to see how productive the tablets are from someone who uses them daily.

Thanks.

Just wanted to say that we are still on for tomorrow's meeting. If you haven't RSVP'ed, then please do so soon, because I need to give a general number to building security of attendees.

Thanks, and hope to see you there!

I realize security has been instructed to NOT let me in...but, could you put a spiritual place holder somewhere for me...maybe crack open a Bass Ale and keep reminding me to drink it??

Hope you have a great time...who's doing minutes?

How are your numbers so far?

Our numbers seem to be between 15-20, depending on who shows. But I don't know yet how much of that number is people who are really using the software in production vs. people who have just gotten into it. But still, it's a start!

Jeffrey,

Thanks for a great meeting! :!:

The "real Revit users" got some good tips and the "newbees" hung in there pretty well, too.

I heard many positive comments and the room was full of excitement.

There are also some other people available to help you out with the "lead presenter" role -- both within the group and through contacts.

We have a strong team, and I think we can go far!

Thanks for this great meeting! There was a good turnout and great discussions (sorry if I piped up a bit too much, but they don't call me Sir-Posts-Alot for nothing!) The lesson on families was very informative and well presented.

I look forward to next month's meeting!

Thanks everyone for showing up! we did have a good turn-out, and there was a lot of interest in keeping regular meetings, so things worked out well. Next meeting will be hopefully more complex too; sorry to dumb it down a little for the new users! :)
