So I am finally getting the office up to 2008. Things have been really busy around the office and I just haven't had anytime until now. I had a phone conversation with my Revit consultant (Cyril @ CDV) on Friday about the upgrade. He had on suggestion I wanted to run by this forum to get your thoughts. He told me that I should not just simply make a copy of our 9.1 template file and save it as 2008. He suggestion was to create a new template file using the Revit 2008 standard temp[late file as a base point, then transfering all of the information from the 9.1 template into the new 2008 template. If I decide to go that route, it is going to take quite a bit of time. It will take my half of a day (if not more) just to transfer the legend views (we have a lot of them) from one file to another.

What did you guys do when you upgraded?

tim.101799,

We did exactly what you describe. Using new empty out of the box template files we transfered standards and copied sheets and views from our old template to the new one.

Although the 9.1 files would upgrade quicker, we wanted to avoid any legacy file format issues that might pop up. I am not aware of any specific technical issues, but we did have trouble upgrading a couple of project files and could not locate the true cause. This was the only way to be sure that it wasn't from the old files.

Some have had problems when simply upgrading their template, on the other hand I have upgraded ours since 6.1 with no problems whatsoever, when you upgrade it make sure the Audit option is checked.

You might want to search the forums. I seem to remember this being asked before and one of the guys from the factory responded that you should use the new template. I think it had to do with new functionality being set to different default settings for udpgraded files vs. newly issued native files. Upgraded files ignore some new parameters or set them to the "dumbest" default. Again, I am going from memory so no guarantees.

Always start from a basic template of the new release and upgrade your stuff. Don't upgrade the old template.
