Looking for a resource on Standard Symbol Library/Solution. Has anyone had any experiece with the Symbol Solution published by CAD Technology Corporation?
http://www.cadtechcorp.com/
My objective is to get all CAD Technicians using a standard set of symbols everytime.
Any direction is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In my opinion, the best library is the one you create yourself for your own needs. Make it available, make tools available to automate the use of those symbols, and make a standard that lets people know that they are the only symbols that should be used, and clearly explain how to use them. Availability, automation and training, followed by a little enforcement goes a lot further then purchasing a cad library. It least thats my opinion.

Presently i am in process of making a CAD Standard manual for my CAD section. (It is in form of a hard copy, not an on line one). I need to enter standard symbols related to mechanical engineering that should be followed by all members of our CAD section. Can any body help me with a file of standard CAD symbols.
Waiting urgently

Do you not already have symbols in your current drawings that are commonly used?

I don't have a library that can be shared. I was suggesting to use the symbols your company currently uses for this library. It would reduce the learning curve on using a symbol library if your co-workers already knew what the symbol represented.

If you use ADT, oops, AutoCAD Architecture, they have symbols to use in Design Center and Content Browser. You can start from there at the very least.

I posed this question in the another thread under CAD management, but this also seemed like a good place to post it. I have just recently finished a library of some basic symbols. As of now they are seperated into the appropriate folders (doors, windows, plubming fixtures, etc.). To allow the program to read these folders, I have to reference each of them in the search paths, but this just seesm redundant. Anway, I was working on a lisp routine that would add these search locations by the click of a button, but wasn't sure how you all handled the library reference and insertion into drawings.
Just a new Lead CAD tech trying to learn some tips. Thanks in advance!

If you are using a recent version of AutoCAD which contains Tool Palettes, you can place your blocks into "container" drawings for specific block types. You can then create a tool palette which references the individual blocks within the "container" drawings. This would allow you to leave them in one folder in your search path instead of many folders.

Well I have been told to not dive too much into tool palettes. My one thought is this, but it seems redundant. I keep everything within its seperate folders for easy access of where the information is stored, but create one folder that contains everything. This way I only have to reference one folder, maybe two within the search paths. Hmmm....I need to put some more thought into this.
