Railing Profiles

I am trying to create a stairway that begins with a winder at the bottom and then straightens with no landing break. the railing profile for the curved section of the stair stretches and squishes to the point that it doesnt meet any edges of the straight railing above or below it. it appears that the profile sweeps vertically along the sloped sketch line rather than sweeping perpindicular to the line. is there any way to sweep the profile in any other way that will join correctly? for clarrification i have attached two views.
