How do I get mtext to start a numbering bullet with another number instead of just '1'? Seems there are no options if I want this automatic numbering feature. I also can not force it. Anyone? Thanks much.

let me guess, you trying to do columns on a sheet where the bullet #'s need to continue onto the next?

if not in 2008 (where you can use columns feature) i've had to use a modelspace/ paperspace viewport approach to 'fake' it.

Lets say you want the numbering to start with 4.

Type "4." (without the quotes).
Hit the tab key and start typing your content.
Then hit Enter.
The next line should start with 5.

You can use a period after the number as in the previous example or you can use any of the following characters as seperators.

} curly bracket, ] square bracket, ) parentheses, > carat and : colon

Right click in the mtext window and pick Bullets and Lists. Make sure the following are checked:

Allow Auto-list
Use Tab Delimiter only
Allow Bullets and Lists

Not sure if all of those are required but I know it works if all are checked. I just verified it in 2009 and 2011.
