I'm working on a church w/ an arched vaulted ceiling. Does anyone have an idea on how to draw this ceing in 3D? Thanks

I was trying that too.

Sounds like an inplace ceiling family cut with very carefully constructed voids.

Got a photo?

It's a half of a tube in section. How would you do this w/ an in place ceiling family.

Use a ceiling or solid that is as thick as the overall ceiling including the extents of the arch. Then use a void to cut out the arch...think...clay...

Here's a quick trial. I have done one of these before, just not arched.

This was what I was describing, got the impression that a groin vault was sort of what was wanted...fwiw

Allen's approach would be simpler if the entire ceiling is arched.

A simple example. But beware, it takes a little doing. The arches are just combinations of
extrusions of solids and voids, the ribs took some time.

My first attempt was to model a sweep then do a polar array - with voids for a free standing
arch. Worked but I wasn't very accurate. A blend would be perfect, IF you could define an edge for the blend to follow between shapes.

THis example is very simple. The ribs are a sweep drawn on the diagonal section.then copied and rotated - Nothing magic just work.

If you have a specific need, and you don't have access, send the specs and I'll generate the roof in 3dsmax and export it to a Dwg. OR------ download sketchup model and import. - Probably the way to go.. Good luck...
