drawing properties

please help
trying to set drawin properties in search window, under summary tab, entering title.
it displays it ok. but once I open that drawing and resave it, the content of title is gone, it wouldn't show anymore in search window, though it show it next to back up file
any thoughts? Anyone, please help

That's the way it works. the DWG Properties are _NOT_ consistent with Windows metadata. When you SAVE a drawing, autocad renames the original file with the .bak extension, and creates a new file with the current drawing name and the .dwg extension.

the information you associated with the original file is now associated with the .bak file, because that _IS_ the file you renamed.


If I recall correctly it did work as expected back in the WinNT 3.5 & 4.0 days, but has been broken since Windows 2000 changed the NT filesystem to a newer version of NTFS. If you add Drawing Properties from within AutoCAD, using the Drawing Properties tool, that will be retained and saved to the current ddrawing instead of the .bak file, but is not visible to windows, and can't be used in windows Search. If you right-click on a file in windows Explorer that has AutoCAD Properties associated with it, you'll see two (2) summary tabs, one usable by Windows, and one used by autodesk, and greyed out for editing in windows.

evidently getting this functionality to work properly was too tough for Adesk. funny, my digital photos and music files have little to no trouble exposing their extra summary information and properties to windows...
