window and door size annotation

In some of my residential and small commercial work I would rather not use a door or window schedule. Is it possible to just label the windows and doors with nominal sizes.

Maybe not in the way you are accustomed to, but yes. Check the "Show Opening Height" in the dimension properties and dimension to the edge of the windows and doors.
