Why?

Some of what you want may be possible with the 'Mark' property.

When I have a building with about 1500 piles, I want to give them al a mark. And then after a couple of months some more piles come under it, Then I want to renumber all the piles.

I have the same wishes. More. It will be better when automatic marking made different marks for columns, beams and other elements by some structural type. For example columns marked as "Cl-1", "Cl-2",..., beams marked as "Bm-1", Bm-2",...
Much better when I can define a assembly groups and mark all elements both by structural type and by assembly group.

For steel constructions it will be excellent.

I believe what you describe is already accomplished by a tag using the parameter Type Mark instead of Mark. A type mark will perpetuate the same value for all elements of the same type, one entry updates all with the same value.

This wish, I believe, is asking for a more efficient way to select many elements and renumber (a unique number for each) them according to some scheme.
