Fill up on families!!

I have a panel family used for curtainwalls, and am trying to create a filled region on a portion of the face. For some reason there is no option to create a "filled region". Any ideas other than creating another mass on the face of the panel that can be filled?

You would make a subcategory and a sep extrusion and assign it to that subcategory. then set a material with the surf/ pattern you want for that sub category.
