can someone tell me if 3D max 2008 is the same thing as 3D max 9? If you go to autodesk site to download a trial copy of 2008 it automatically sends you to a download of 9. Does anyone know how to get a trial of 2008?

They are not the same. This used to confused the heck out of me too. They announce the latest version of MAX at Siggraph in August and it goes live on their website. However it is not "shipped" until October 17th this year. So right now all that anyone can have is MAX 9 (unless you are part of the beta team). A trial version of 2008 won't be available for a few months from now would be my guess. MAX 2008 would have been MAX 10 if following the old way of naming autodesk products. You'll have to wait for a trial of MAX 2008.
