Hi all.

I'm trying to create a wall that's not the same thickness at it's 2 ends, and I can't figure out how.

Anyone want to offer a tip?

Cheers in advance,

Wil.

Use an "in place family" for that. (under Modeling design bar, Create..., choose Wall category, then Solid Form, Extrusion)

Thanks, this is a good start for the schematic design phases.

Taking this a little further, could we use this method to create a multi-component wall, and have the "airspace" as this tapered shape?

You'd probably just do that as two separate walls. See this thread (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=67420&highlight=place+complex+wall) for some possibly helpful discussion.

Not sure if this will help or not, but we needed something similar a while back. We called this our "zoot," and it was a tapered end to a wall. Sound similar? Well, we actually got it to work for us, not ideally, but working in a kind of associative way by using a profile vertically on the end of the wall. Therefore, it could have a material applied to it like a cornice, but in this case it matched the wall it was attached to, and we managed to get the geometry to align with the width of the wall by type, not instance, from face of all to face of wall. It even worked for curved walls with various tangential angles by type. Also, we found that we could use the linework tool with an Invisible Line to hide the junction between the "zoot" and the wall itself. It wasn't as flexible as we needed and in the process of all of this the designer changed their mind (go figure) so we abandoned the concept. But, I could maybe dig it out of storage, shoot me an email if you're stumped.
