Baluster changes on stair

This is odd. I made a tapered baluster and it works fine in a horizontal railing. However, when I try to put it on a stair it fails. Any clues?

Also what is the best way to make the newel posts sit on the floors?

Alright you reviteers. I can't believe no one got this before me. In the railing edit under baluster placement, there is a check box for baluster per tread and you can select a different baluster family there. It was an easy one but hard to find because it was so plainly put out there.

If anyone has a goos solution for running the rail to the floors please let me know
