I have 2 large hip roofs with 2'-0" gabled bump outs around the building. We are maintaining a 3’-0” overhang with all roofs, so the gable portions will of course be bumped out 2’-0” from the hip roof. I went through the same exercise twice, on one roof it worked and the other it didn’t. My problem is the gable roof is not returning to the hip roof at the correct location. See attached jpegs for a better description the first one is the incorrect and the second is the correct. On the correct roof the gable is much bigger than on the incorrect roofs I don't know if that has anything to do with it, I don't think it should.
Thank you,

I had an issue that looked a lot like yours. What I did was to seperate my roofs. First I did my big hip roof, then I created my gables, joined my roofs and then I edited my hip roof to clean up the extra parts. It takes a little bit of time (about 5 minutes) but it's a solution that worked for me.

Ben,
Thank you, one question, after you created your gable and joined it with the hip did you then go into the hip roof and cut a hole for where the hip is protruding through your gable? Or is there another roof clean up option?
Thank you,

Usuely, I cut the hip roof to have everything clean with the sections. The litthe trick is to join your roofs by clicking your gable first, then your hip roof. That way, when you edit your hip roof, you'll see the join lines nice and clear.
