For some strange reason the 'center of rotation' icon disappears from my object when i select the rotation comand. the really odd thing is that it appears on other objects in other views. It also appears on my co-workers computers when selecting the same original object.
Does anyone have a solution for this amazing revit quirk?

Any chance this is happening in a view with a cropped region? If the center of rotation is not directly over the element (like for an arc for example) then it might be outside of the displayed portion of a view.

Its definetly a cropped region. The element is a detail component though, small and within the boundry of the 'cropped region'

Check the detail component family. The center of rotation will default to where the two origin defining reference planes intersect.

Just to clarify - do you mean the center of rotation is ok in the family, or that the intersection of the reference planes are at the center (or close to) of the detail component linework? I'm just asking, because you won't notice the ref plane part until you load it into a project.
