Ok, I have searched this thread for the answer and can not seem to find it. Here is my question. When editing styles for alignments in Civil 3d 08, is there a setting for station tic marks? You know, those little lines at every station number that we are all so used to in prior releases of autocad?

The station ticks are a label for the alignment, not a property of the alignment itself. Select the alignment, right-click, select Edit Labels (or something like that). You can specify a different label style for the major and minor stations.

ok another question for you guys. now that i have found out how to insert a tic in the alignment label, how do i get the tic to rotate perp. to the alignment? on one leg of the alignment the tic is perp to the centerline, one another leg it is rotated. Am i just missing a rotation orientation in the styles? or just not setting the right parameter for the tic mark?

Make sure your orientation reference is set to object:

Ok, here is why you have backups of your styles on the network. I had a hard drive failure, and even though I like the set it and forget it styles mentality the problem is I forgot it. How do I get the tics on an alignment to default to the layer specified and display the appropriate color? Secondly where do I set the decimal default for the stations, standard is 100+00.00, we like 100+00.

You have to dig a little to be able to change the default layer. In your tool space, go to the settings bar then the alignment set. Then go to the label sets then the label type you want to edit. Right click then go the edit command. From there select the label you want to edit then hit the edit button. Under the General tab is the default layer setup. Its about the same for almost everything else. Just a suggestion, create a drawing that has all the layers, settings, and blocks that you want to use with all the changes you want set into it. Such as were all the default layers and such are set. Just leave it blank and insert it as a drawing into all your drawings your working on to automatically set what your preference is. It takes a while to setup but in the long time its worth it. Hopefully this is what you need.
