In regards to continuous strip footings, I tried to join them using Join Geometry but it doesn't work that way. I did read the other threads but they don't have a definite solution. I'm using Revit Architecture 2008 but it seems like they haven't fine tuned that aspect of the program yet. Footings DO play an integral part when it comes to structure but for some weird reason, Revit doesn't let you work those footings the way you want them to. The Join Tool is very erratic it seems. I have attached a JPEG

The second problem I face are the Detail Components. I take a section like I normally would in Revit, go to my Section View > Load up the Component Dialog Box > Pick Division 06: Woods and Plastic > Nominal Cut Lumber > 2X4 Section...guess what happens next...I get the message: "Component cannot be placed in Elevation or Section View"...and after this, it reverts back to the regular components like Shelving, Cabinets, etc. HELP! I need that 2X4 on my drawing bad!

For footings it might be easier to just use a hosted sweep instead of the actual Footing tool.

As for your detail component, I don't think I've ever seen that message before from a detail component. Detail components can be placed in any view as far as I know.

I have no problems putting that exact 2x4 section detail component into a section view.

Lol..I agree with you but it's what i'm getting in my status screen for some darn reason. I have never (In my avid use of Revit Building 8.1) seen that message either. It's a pain in the you know what.

Just a thought...

I've also had this error message when trying to use the Component tool to load a detail component.

Maybe you have done the same thing?

If so, go to Drafting and use the Detail Component tool and now your timber component should load in Section.
