I am having an issue with how the steel bracing members are reading in plan view. I have a tube steel bracing member modeled between column lines 1 and 2 and in my Level 1 floor plan it is showing up as though I was looking down on it from the floor above. My view range's cut plane seems to have no effect on this steel member. Even if I create a view range for that area it has no effect. If I cut a wall section through the tube steel it shows up correctly but I can seem to get that same sort of representation in my floor plan.

Any ideas?

How do you want to see it?

Just as though it were being cut by the Cut Plane for the rest of floor. I would love to have it look the same way as it is being cut in the section I created in the file.

Any ideas?

The display representation of bracing is unaffected by the cut plane and it always shows in projection. If for some reason you want to see it exactly as cut, you'll have to use a different family category, such as a generic model. Most families show a cut representation as cut in the family and not as cut in the project (almost like a "symbol" representation). You might want to check out this thread:

Thanks for the help, that suggestion was what we actually moved forward with yesterday. We built a generic model family so we could see exactly where the bracing was coming through in plan. It just seemed weird that it would cut in section and not plan, but oh well...maybe in 2009...

It works by cutting a section, without making a new generic model family.

That works just as it does in a vertical section, but how do I get this in the floor plan or are you suggesting using this view for a floor plan?
