Using AutoCAD Land Companion Enabled Map 2008, and Raster
Design 2008, I use the ._IINSERT command from Raster Design
to insert and transform (from UTM83-14 to TX83-SCF) an .ECW
image and AutoCAD just hangs up. You have to use the Task
Manager to end the task.

Repeat the same thing using the 2006 versions of these
applications and the same image inserts almost instantly.

In 2008, if you do not transform the image, it works just
fine also.

Any thoughts?

It's not locked up. Raster Design 2008 can now edit ECW, and other highly-compressed, multi-resolution, files. Translating with the True or 4 point rubbersheet methods will calculate new positions for every pixel in the image. Trying to translate a large image file will just take a very long time. How large is the image file you are working with? Keep in mind that ECW files can have a 20-50 to 1 compression ratio.

For a quicker insertion, use the 3 point affine method. It will place the image in the drawing using three points to insert, scale and rotate the image. The image itself will not be modified.
