Floating Light Fixtures

What is it with the recessed can lights that makes them float above the ceiling in which it is supposed to be hosted? But only on some ceilings, mind you.
I tried to modify the family and was partially successfull. Mostly in that it 'stuck' to an arbitrary level and became very, very tall.

Am I missing something? Is there a better light family out there that actually works?

My recessed can ceiling light works perfectly. May be a problem with the ceiling type or maybe 2 ceilings in the same place?

What ceiling are you using? Could you post a small project with the problem in it??
