Hosted to non-hosted via API?

Does anyone think it's possible to convert a (wall-hosted) family to non-hosted via the API? Or, could hosted elements in a project be swapped out to a non-hosted ones (in the same place) in a project via API?

Either of these methods are a pain to do manually.

Convert Families , no. Replace hosted with non-hosted a cautious yes (without trying it). Not that I'm telling you anything new but this is why I avoid hosted families unless they're nested unhosted families.
