I was working on some roof shapes which involved a few footprint roof, a extruded roof and a in-place family or two. One of my families has a solid as identified with a "Roof Void" object style so I can turn it off later, but use it to 'cut' another roof.
The cut/don't cut doesn't work in this case. But I did find that now and then Join/Unjoin did give me the correct results - but not always.
After a bit of playing around I discovered that joining 2 objects is totally dependant on the order the objects are selected. the first object selected will cut the second....
I then noticed this note in the Revit help: "In a project, when you join geometry, one element is actually cutting another:" but no mention that pick order is what determines what is cut.
I think I'll find this quite useful....
