Seeing the new build of Revit was posted, I set about to making the network deployment for it.

Except it cancels out, no matter what I do. The standalone installer works fine.

What gives? It has always worked before...

Finishing up my download. I'll give my network deployment a try knowing that you had errors.

Just finished running through the Deployment Wizard....FAILED.

AHA! Thanks for testing! I'll let the Factory know...

I thought I was going crazy....maybe I am...but that's another problem. ;-)

Any word on when this will be fixed?

No word -- I did submit a SR on the problem... I submitted the SR two days ago and they told me the problem has been escalated and they're looking into it.

Hey -- and congrats on the move to Calgary, Bruce! Though now that you're working for our competition I will always talk to you with a voice like Dr. Evil

Thanks, Wes, I'll watch the forum for updates to the issue.

Yes, and you guys truly are some serious competition....let the games begin!

I get the same result. It says "user canceled" as the cause of the error. I notice the product literature mentions some Vista issues were addressed with htis build, which makes me wonder if his might be causing it. Is anyone running Vista having a different result?
Bruce what's your phone number over there at Autodraft?

Worked fine here, on XP Pro. And, no more crashes in one model switching to stair sections.

Having the same issue when trying to create deployments for both Architecture and Structure, tested on two different computers, resulting in the same exact error. The best part being I had to uninstall my previous SP2 to even attempt to create this new deployment.

WTF Autodesk?

The updates didn't even look worth the time in the first place.

There has to be an easier way to keep these programs up to date without all this uninstall/reinstall BS.

I got a partial fix from Autodesk today, I'll try it tomorrow and report any positive results.

Autodesk sent a DLL file to replace one in download, it didn't change anything.

Waiting for more info....

Wes, did you get anywhere on your SR with Autodesk?

I got a note saying it had been elevated. The situation is a bit weird since they seem to be stymied by the problem -- but seems to be an OS problem, eh?

My SR hasn't been elevated yet, but I haven't heard from them since the failed DLL.

Yes, stymied.

Same problem here. RAC fails with the error message - User canceled, But I swear I didn't do anything! lol

RME just fails outright. It trys to run the gets the errror: Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid.

I have not tried RST yet as I can only take so much failure in one day.

That warm fuzzy feeling from Autodesk that I had at AU is starting to wear off.

Clearing the cobwebs (and stacks on my desk) from AU07. Anything new to report on this issue?

Yes -- we found a fix this morning. I'll ask if I can post the file here that fixed my problem.

We had the exact same problem with the new Revit builds when trying to create Deployments. I opened an email dialog with the support team and also opened an SR. I spent two days sending in logs and other requested information to both groups. Both groups came up scratching their heads.

On the third day as I was trying to capture more requested log information - the deployment creation worked.

I can now create my deployments (RAC, RME, RST) with no errors. I really don't have a solution to brag about or understand why this is now working, but after getting the "user cancelled" message about a dozen times over three days I can now create my deployments.

As I said in my email to the support team "I'll chalk it up to computer magic".

Was there a Windows update in there somewhere? My SR asked for all Windows Updates before trying the deployment again.

Wes, look forward to hearing about your solution...

Here's the non-official solution: the user creating the NW deploy must install the attached update to the C++ libraries. Autodesk will probably come up with a fix, but in the meantime, if you run this, you should be able to create the deployment.

Here's the link to the C++ libraries -- it's also attached to this message.

Thanks Wes, your fix worked for the RAC but not the RME.

The same problem still exists for the RME.

RME network deployment is fixed for me. It was a windows installer error and it happens when some stuff is left behind from a previous install of the program. Download the Windows Installer Clean Up utility and select the version of revit you are having issues with. Then try to create a network deployment. It worked for me.

No official solution for this yet, huh?
I had the "user cancelled" error when trying to create the deployment on a fresh new install of WinXP Pro. I'll submit a SR with the info.

Not only did it fail, but it also deleted the deployment folder!!! (where I had the downloaded exe file, or at least a copy of it)

In the past I've had problems with creating deployments when the revit install exe is on the same drive as where you want the deployment to go. So I normally run the deployment exe off my thumbdrive when I create the network deployment on a network drive.

Wes's fix of downloading the C++ SP1 runtime libraries fixed the issue that I was having with RAC. Here is the site for the download http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=200B2FD9-AE1A-4A14-984D-389C36F85647&displaylang=en

Good luck.

Somehow I don't think building a Network Install on a Vista machine and then pushing everything to XP machines is a good idea. Anyone done this, or should I just plan on building an XP virtual to do the network build from?

Thanks,
Gordon

I've never built a deployment on vista but I think it should work. It doesn't install to the hard drive during the install so you should be ok, as long as you are using a version and a build that runs on vista.
