I am learning to use phasing for a project I am working on and having some trouble with the phase filters.

I currently have 3 phases: existing phase, phase 1, and phase 2. I don't need a demo phase. I would like to create three different views:

1. existing only
2. existing + phase 1
3. existing + phase 1 + phase 2

I have drawn the existing model on the existing phase and created two additional views for phase 1 and phase 2. I have also changed the phase created to pahse 1 and phase 2 respectively. I have drawn new elements on phase 1 and phase 2 as needed.

The trouble I am having is with phase filters. The phase filters only show: new, existing, demolished, and temporary. These don't correspond to my three phases that I have set up. How can I change the phase filters to existing, phase 1, and phase 2? Right now I can't tell if a wall that I add in phase 1 is in new, existing, demolished, or temp phase filter.

I have gone through the tutorial but, found it confusing. Maybe I am asking Revit to do something its not capable of doing.

I would appreciate any help and guidance.

Thanks

Bill

For what you have described just simply use the "show all" filter in each view. This should show what you want. When working with Revit phasing you have to think of it as just a continous time line. Objects are either "new" (placed during the phase corresponding to the view setting) or "existing" (placed prior to the views current phase). A view in Revit does not "see" objects placed in the future on the timeline relating to your phases.

You can then use the demolish tool on an object changing its state to demolished (if it was considered an existing object) or temporary (if the object was created and demolished in the same phase.

Attached is a very simple project showing how this works. The exampl includes a demolished wall so it is not the situation exactly as you described but it is close.

Jeff,

Thank you for the help. I now see how to do this. One follow-up question. How do you get the 3-d models to show the colors of the materials correctly? Right now, all previous phases are grayed out.

Thanks again

Bill
P.S. Good to hear from a Granite Stater Revit user!

make a new phase filter and change all the values to not overriden and you should see all the phase as if they are new
