Places and Locations

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding how the "Manage Place and Locations" is supposed to work when using mulitple linked files with Shared Coordinates. I'm coordinating 8 buildings on a large site and recently did something to all the coordinate locations for every linked file. All say the same building location. I never had that before. So, my question is. Should I have a list of 8 locations in the "Manage Place and Locations"? or should it show only 2 (internal, and the current location)? Please see graphic examples below.

I'm worried that this location problem is affecting the files in adverse ways. I hope I'm being clear about this, it's rather hard to explain, since my revit vocab isn't really up to snuff.

Manage place and location is only needed if you have 1 building type placed many times on a site and want to see its site positions in the building file in thos diff. locations.

If you have 8 diff. buildings on 1 site, manage location is not even used.
