sharing tool palletes

I recently attended a course on tool pallete creation by robert green.
He showed us a method of sharing tool palletes with other network users by copying the toolpallete folder to a network drive and then other users just setting this as a second option for toolpalletes within file options. We have tried this and it does not seem to work.
What are we doing wrong. Does anyone have an idea. Help !

Welcome into the AUGI community.
Have you added the path in toolpalletes files location under the Files tab of the options dialogue box?
It's best to add the network version underneath the existing entry, so that the user can create their own personal tabs, & make sure the folder is read only, to keep the palletes from being tinkered with.

I've done this sharing on a network drive and even made the folder read only just for that reason. The problem I have though it seems that whenever opens autocad, it tries to write to the shared tool palette folder so I end up with thousands of 0 KB temp files in the Palettes folder.

We have used a shared set of tool palettes for a while now. We are using 2006, and myself and 2 others have rights to the folder location (on the server). I have a few files with all the blocks from each discipline in each. I drag and drop to the palette and assign layers, insertion stuff, etc. I have gone through the office and removed everyones path to their local and replaced it with the folder I have made. Their tool palette is read only, and has a little locked icon on the bottom. I have rights overall to this drive, they do not.

First of all, whenever I make adjustments to an existing one or add a tool palette, I export it. If it exists already, I delete the subfolder it overwrites the other file. (xtp file)

I can export palette groups, and thats the buggy part. Once someone dragged and dropped the whole folder to another location, and all the palette groups disappeared. I have chosen not to recreate them, as I may be adding another tp to the server and if it isn't already in the group, some don't show up as part of the filtered group....

Anyways, I would suggest to try one guinea pig computer and remove the local path and replace it with the server path. (Restart autocad) Then see what happens?

We have a Resource server and a Home server setup.The Resource drive is read-only for the majority of users and contains the company's standard palettes. The Home drive contains the users' profiles so they can create new palettes simply by right clicking on the company palettes (with padlock) and creating a new palette for themselves (with no padlock). This personal palette is then automatically saved on their Home drive and is available to them wherever they go in the office.
I've attached a file showing how this is set up in the Options dialogue.
To make changes to the standard palette, I simply log in to our system as my "power user" persona (who has rights to modify files on the Resource drive) and make changes to the palettes. These are then available to the users the next time they start up.
I started using this system in 2006. We are now using 2007, but soon to go over to 2008.
