Tile patterns, not Line patterns

I am currently working on a restroom renovation and I am curious as to how to create tile patterns for walls in elevation and floors in plan. I have seen alot of info on line patterns ex. 2"x2" tiles, 4"x4" tiles but I am looking for a way to show a tile design layout. Such as all white tiles with a horizontal line of gray tiles at 3' high in elevation. Or in plan show a white tile floor with a gray tile border.

What I have done is use a filled region to show the different colored tiles.

Filled region if you want to do it in the view. Split surface and apply material to do it in the model.
