Currently the area reinforcement sysmbol only allows for a solid line to appear on the plan. I beleive it is industry standard to have solid for top reinf. and dashed for btm reinf. Is there a way to dash the line in the symbol?

You could try to edit the symbol family and change the line style. Make sure you save it as a different name. Then place one for the top bars and another one forthe bottom bars.
Do you place both bottom and top on the same drawing?

yes both are usually on the same plan. On friday I was able to get the symbols to work by your method but only on separate plan. If you edit the line type in the family (even saving with a different name) it changes both. I have had to do a graphic override for the view for the area reinforcment rebar. But that causes me to have to plans, NOT what I am looking for. I need the symbols to so up differently on the same plan.

OK so I got the reinf. to show up dashed for btm reinf, but had to do it manually for each element by overriding the graphics by view. But how do you get the lineweights for the rebar to be different from the leaders. If you edit the object style then both the bebar and the leader change thkness. Getting very frustrated that this isn't just done automatically. Does the rest of the world use this same convention from suspended slab reinf??? Dashed for btm and solid for top.
Help me Autodesk!!!!1

Hey Slyder,
Attached is a quick example to reverse engineer. The key to get this working is to add a couple of additional subcategories in the family under the Structural Area Reinforcement Symbols category. I've created two seperate families (top and bottom) so it is easier to see what is going on. These could be combined into one family using a yes/no parameter to control the visibility of the top/bottom linework.
Edit: you snuck another post in there right before my reply . . . does this do the trick?

Thanks Paul but the attached came up corrupt. Could you retry or maybe send it via private message.
Thanks
