When this happens, what do some of you do to rememdy it? I try to refrain from layer states, but that isn't always easy to convince others. Seems as newer versions come on board, especially with the advent of sheet sets, it becomes more and more problematic. Ideas and info please? Thanks much.

Could you explain what you mean by "don't work". What exactly is happening to them?

What I mean is, when you select a layer and click restore, layers do not change as they should in terms of turning off, on, and/or changing colors, etc...

I was under the impression that layer states deal with freezing/thawing only... well, at least that's what I always used them for; we'd have one for each sheet setup (xreffing in model space, no viewports).

Many of my colleagues, including myself, use layer states a lot and I've have not seen any issues like you describe. The only thing I could think of is some of the "Later Properties to restore" are unchecked. In 2008 these properties are on the Layer State dialog (see image). In previous releases I think you had to pick a button in the dialog to see the properties.
