Why are areas not phase dependant? Can they be made so?
For example to show and existing building size vs. the renovated building size (not an addition there to but completed sizes).

You'll need to create another Area type for this...

Im sorry, I don't understand. If an area plan is made in an existing phase and it shows a building with an area and a terrace with and area (building cooverage and lot coverage). We put that into a schedule showing existing.
New phase... Building expands into the terrace, and terrace gets larger.
Now on the area plan we want one area showing the building, even if we make an new area plan set to the new phase the existing area invisibly exist there. I cannot make one an area which includes the proper proposed building.
Others must have to show existing & proposed calculations. This would be a great feature. Existing and proposed, hardscape, building, coverage, clearing, volume, etc.

You will need to follow greg's post if you want to create a area plan specifically for the existing building. In the design bar under the "Room and Area" tab click on "Settings" and switch to the "Area Scheme" Tab. Here you can create a new area scheme for the exiting building. Now you can create a new Area Plan with the boundries you are looking for without effecting the current area plan.

Right... sorry about my abbreviated post... I was killing time and didn't have Revit open to verify any sort of how-to. Thanks to mysixstring for clearing it up.
