View Full Version : Revit - Save / Export markups back to DWF

Performed the following steps:
1. Published a 2D DWF from Revit 08
2. Opened the DWF in Design Review
3. Created a test markup
4. Saved
5. Back in Revit, Linked the DWF markup set into the revit file.
6. Markups overlay the sheet perfectly.. So far so good.
7. Completed the markup in Revit and changed the status of the markup object from NONE to DONE....

OK, now I can't seem to figure out what to do next (if anything). If I save the overall revit file, the markup status is back to NONE next time I open the revit file. I go to manage links and choose save DWF markups, but nothing seems to happen. Is there any way to push the fact that I changed the markup status to DONE back to the original DWF file?

Or even keep the status if I close Revit and reopen it? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

I'm having the same problem. On top of that if I try to save the Revit file while the DWF Markup file is open it errors with the following:

"Can't modify imported file '_______' or file is already in use. Please close file and press ok." ABORT, RETRY, IGNORE

This continues even after the dwf file is closed. I've read similar complaints on Autodesks' DWF Forum and it referenced something about the DWF team needing to talk to the Revit team.

This is probably the most promising functionality of this product. I hope they get it worked out soon.

I am having this exact problem. I see this was originally posted in 2005. Has there been a fix to this?

No, this has been an issue for a while; I have an open support case with Autodesk, but I'm not certain that any progress has been made. A shame, too, as this problem really undermines the interoperability of these tools. We've gone back to the "old-fashioned" way of having Revit and ADR design review open simultaneously and switching back between the two as the redlines are picked up.

Here we are 4+ years since this thread started and the functionality is still screwed up! Absolutely unbelievable, nothing else to add.

Having the same problem today, modified markups wont save back to dwfx; "Revit cannot save the imported file (...) because the file is read only or already in use. What do you want to do?" No one has the dwfx open, and seeing the time scale on this open issue makes me want to forget that this would be awesome if it worked.

Just had this same problem yesterday. Somehow it thought the file was open. In fact when opening the DWFx file, it was shown as read-only in Design Review. However to prove it wasn't being edited, I was able to rename the file successfully in Windows Explorer. To get around this issue, I made a copy of the DWFx file and named it slightly different, then reloaded the markup in Revit. I was then able to save the project and markup changes successfully. Every time I had the DWFx open, Revit gave me that same error, however upon closing it, I was able to save just fine. So it DOES work, but at times something makes Revit think the file is open when it's really not; could be some network permissions hangup I suppose. Try the above technique and see if it works for you.

can you clarify the process for your workaround?
