View Full Version : Dependent View Outline

I have run into a curious problem that I can't seem to get rid of. In some of our plans we have created dependent views, each showing only one room. We use them to quickly be able to send the different room layouts to different user groups without sending the entire plan. In creating the dependent views, a dashed line showed up on all of our overall plans (see attached reference image). I have looked through the visibility/graphics overrides but wasn't able to locate the "dependent view outline" category so that I could shut these dashed lines off. Does anyone know how to get these lines to disappear/not appear when I originally create the dependent view?

I don´t get those lines in dependent views.
Are you sure they are not the callout reference rectangles?

Nope, they are definitely dependenet view outlines. They only appear on the primary view of the dependent views, and if you right click on one it gives you the option to "go to view" and "go to primary view". If you select "Go to view" the dependent view opens.

Since my last post, I tried shutting everything off in the primary view via the visibility/graphics overrides and everything (walls, notes, etc.) shut off, in fact the only thing that was left was these lines.

If you hover over the view, two lines appear, presumably the crop region and the annotation crop line of the dependent view. I'll try to post a screen shot in a while.

I was able to hide the element in view so this may work as a solution, but I am curious if these are supposed to show up. Especially considering others aren't seeing the same things.

I just reread your message and noticed that you said that you don't get those lines "in" dependent views. A point of clarification, the lines are showing up in the primary view not the dependent view itself. It appears that the line is the outline of the dependent view. Sorry for any confusion.

Another thing that I didn't make clear was that the reason for my concern is that these lines print. Hiding them in view works, but I am wondering now if they are supposed to be there.

I didn’t notice these before, either. They are the crop region boundaries of the dependent views. Uncheck the ‘Crop Region Visible’ property and these will be hidden as well. Also check ‘Hide crop boundaries’ when printing.

A J Holland,

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I tried both solutions, but didn't get result from either. By default our prints are printed without the crop regions visible. However I just did a test and indeed the crop regions of the dependent views did show on the print. I also tried the "Show Crop Region" button and while that turns off the crop region outline inside the dependent view itself, it doesn't seem to have any bearing on the primary view. Thanks again for your help. If you have time can you test both of your solutions in one of your projects and let me know if you get the same results that I did?

Cameron,
Just tested it and... Holland is right.
Disable the Crop Region Visible button in your primary view.
That should do it.

Problem solved!! Thank you all.

The solution was to disable the crop region visible in the primary view. Not to disable the crop region for the dependent view from the primary view. Now it would be nice if AutoDesk would give us a check box to not print these items, or have them function under the already existing "Don't print crop region" check box. I like their functionality when left on since you can open the dependent view from the primary view by right clicking.

There is an assumption that the overall plan will not be printed as it is too large to fit on paper. Using that assumption the visibility of the dependant view crop regions should not be a problem. The assumption may not be correct in all cases.

If you do not use Hide Crop Region via the View Control Shortcut Bar or view properties the dependant views crop region(s) will display and print even if you check the Hide Crop Regions options in Print Setup. In other words if you can see them they will print. This is probably a "bug" as they shouldn't print with that option checked.
