View Full Version : Insert 2d Elements

I have drawn a library of different wall, floor and roof assemblies and saved them to a library (they are all in one project ???). All elements are 2d. When I try to insert them in a new project - I am unable to do so. The intent is that I would be able to assemble a wall section using these different 2d elements in a "common drafting view".

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest trying to use Detail Components instead of views, then you can assemble them as needed on your Drafting Views or even imbed them into other Families.

The whole point of this is to absolutely avoid having to assemble detail components. Purpose of this approach - is to reuse these typical details (components already assembled) with minimal amount of corrections.

Did you group them? Make groups, which from your master file can be saved out to their own RVT and then inserted into other projects. Another way is to go to File>Insert from File>Views. This will allow you to insert Drafting Views, or any view not containing model elements, into another project.

Scott:

Inserting drafting views does not work - I want to make a composite of these views to form the wall sections. When you insert drafting views - creates duplicate copy in the new project not in the view. Something just does not seem to want to mesh ??? Really would like to get to the bottom of this.

Scott:

Yes groups - sort of work. Have attached an example of what I am trying to do. I have four basic groups - roofs, walls, floors and foundations. I have brought them all into a common drafting view - no problem. What I don't like is they do not remain as groups. I would like to be able to take an assembly and change it from one group (i.e. FLR TJI 9.5) to another (i.e. FLR TJI 11.875), without it exploding immediately. Perhaps at a later time I would want it to ungroup but not initially.

Any ideas.

Thanks again.
