View Full Version : How do I make families come in with correct line weight/pattern?

Ok, I give up... what's the trick to getting my families/components to come in with the correct line weight and line pattern? The door swings are never dashed and the casework families show up as very thick lines. I'm using the families that our Revit "experts" created and their drawings look great. But these families don't seem to work properly in my files. Yet, to my eyes the families seem fine.
The lines in the families are either set to Casework [projection] or Hidden Lines [projection]. Both of these line styles are in the Project File's Object Styles dialog box with the correct Line Weight and Pattern. And the view is set to the proper scale.
What am I missing?

The display use by a family is driven by the project. Anything you will do in the family editor will be overriden in the project.
Keep that in mind and go to Object Style

I did.
Quote from my OP:

Unless that object subcategory is not yet present in the project. Then it will use the settings in the family. Are you using a diferent template that your "experts"? Are there view specific settings they are using?

Are the objects in diferent subcategories? And if yes, are the subcategories set to the right line weight on the Object Styles dialog box?

Yep. The subcategories are correct. I'm using the template they told me to use. There are no view specific overrides.

Can you upload the project with the family? You can make a copy of the project, delete everything from the project except for that family and upload it...all one needs is to look at the project settings and the views, and to be able to look at the family...

If everything is set correctly and you still have a problem, then there might be overridden V/G settings in your view, or overridden individual objects. If not, it could be your phase filters (remember that phase filters are used all the time, even if "you don't have phasing").

Can you get a template from the guys who set up the families?
As customized as it seems from you there maybe other items that are project specific and tied back to the template they were created from.

I started with their template. And nothing is that customized. The family is using default OOTB lines.
