We have a non-worksetted Structural model using Revit Structure 2008. We keep getting "Seek Failed" error messages and have to resort to a ####.rvt backup file. I think what is happening is that our Structural Designer is closing the application when the hour glass cursor changes back to an arrow, but the file is not done saving. We end up with a truncated file. Anyone else have this happen?

I have seen a similar error when copying files from an ftp site. The only way to resolve it was to download a newly posted file. Somehow when if the post is interupted it will become corrupt. This sounds like a similar situation if the user is closing before a completed save. I would suggest enabling worksets. Even if there is only one user with worksets enabled you can take advantage of a better backup file system, rather than the .#### method.

At this point it is a "PICNIC" problem (Problem In Chair Not In Computer). However, it would be nice if the application would not close until the save is completed.

This picnic just became very real to me though.
No worksets, no network, just stand alone labtop with one file.
Seek failed.

good thing there is a backup.

Im assuming that you are using the latest build (2008-SP3).
Open the backup with the Audit option check

Just ran into this error this morning.

Additional information:
I have the latest build installed. Additionally, the last person to access the file was someone other than myself. He had opened a project to take a measurement and Revit had let me know upon attempting to open the file myself that another user was accessing the file and I would not be able to save changes. I had the user close the file (he did not save changes) and when I attempted to open the project I received the Seek Failed error. No worksets are enabled yet. It did, however, have shared coordinates linked to a site file. (Site file opens properly without the project linked in now.) I ended up reverting to a ####.rvt file to salvage it.

Any thoughts on preventing this would certainly be welcome so less-than-level-headed users here can avoid meltdowns.

Also, I tried this first. Still got the "Seek Failed" error.
