View Full Version : Tips for the Day

Just discovered a couple things today. Most of you may have already discovered these, but I just found these out.
1. If you have the issue of rendering existing walls and they all come out gray and you want to have good rendering without gray wall. Change filter phase to show complete. It will then have all the materials as you had originally specified.
2. If you do a lot of retail like I do, you get frustrated by the fact that the model text material is all one color not like building signage in reality. You can paint the sides to black as required and it looks a lot more realistic.
I hope these are useful to somebody else but me.

Thanks Trent! That was a help. Today was my first day using existing walls and I ran into that very problem w/ rendering. =)
Thanks,

Hey There,
A way to speed this up is to make the sides whatever color and finish you want when you first create the model text, then, paint the faces after. If you do the sides after, there are many more faces to paint since curved letters are really tiny little faceted faces.
To expand on this, I did a post a long time ago showing metal finished sides with a translucent lighted face to simulate true sign letters. (works great for night renderings)
Keep it up!

You could also, copy the text and make two diff. thicknesses with 2 diff. materials one in front of the other.
